Our elephant dung paper notebooks make a great quirky but practical gift. They are Fair Trade and perfect for use as a journal or simply as an everyday notebook.

The elephant dung covers are made from 75% elephant dung and 25% recycled paper – yes really! The notebooks are filled with approximately 50 pages of paddy husk paper, a beautiful handmade paper that is very smooth and easy to write on with any pen of your choice. All the paper is acid-free.

The notebooks are handmade by skilled local artisans who complete the designs with a brass elephant motif. Only natural dyes are used.

Each piece is uniqueas everything is handmade and the shade and smuttiness of the paper depends on the elephant diet!

Dimensions: 15.5 x 20.5 cm

Your impact

Give waste a new life and Be fair to peopleAll the elephant dung paper used in our products is acid-free and handmade at the Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust in Sri Lanka. Zero waste and fair to artisans in the rural communities who are paid fair wages for manufacturing and also to local villages working at collecting the elephant dung that is used to make the paper.

With your purchase you are also supporting Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF), a small charity that cares for sick, old and disabled elephants. The foundation is also working to resolve the conflict between elephants and local communities, a critical concern as the elephants' natural habitat decreases and they turn to eating farmers' crops.

                                      Be fair to people:

All the woollen socks are hand crocheted by a Fair Trade organisation in Nepal.

Actively promoting the training and employment of stigmatised and marginalised members of their society, they pay a fair wage and offer opportunities for them to live a stable and happier life.

Care Instructions:  As these socks are made from wool, we’d advise treating them like your favourite woolly jumper – wash in a cold woollen wash or better still, hand wash in cool water. As they are completely hand knitted, there may be some variation in the sizes. The socks may not be exactly the same size as you would expect from factory/machine produced socks. Due to their hand knitted nature, the exact design and colours may vary a little from the socks shown in the image. We think this makes them all wonderfully unique.

The main cause of the species’ decline comes from poachers, who target their horns. Demand for rhino horn has dramatically increased in Asian countries, where it is used in traditional medicine or kept as a sign of status and wealth. A single horn on the black market can command extremely high prices.

An original gift for craft lovers that also trains cognitive and psychomotor skillsA combination of design, craftsmanship and representative landscapes from the chilean culture and identity, Kalofisha has sought to relieve the romanticism of writing a letter or a postcard: to feel the surprise of receiving it, to feel the smell and texture of a place, and certainly to feel the kilometers that it travelled to arrive to its destiny…

Their domestication has been going on for thousands of years, and it is common for indigenous peoples of the highlands of Peru, Bolivia and Chile to keep them by forming herds. Since at least 1,500 years before the first Spaniard set foot in America, llamas and alpacas provided, in much of the Andean region, meat food and the fibers derived from their fur used as raw materials in clothing and textile fabrics of designs that reflected their everyday lives: "a way of being and doing in the world."

An original gift for craft lovers that also trains cognitive and psychomotor skills A combination of design, craftsmanship and representative landscapes from the chilean culture and identity, Kalofisha has sought to relieve the romanticism of writing a letter or a postcard: to feel the surprise of receiving it, to feel the smell and texture of a place, and certainly to feel the kilometers that it travelled to arrive to its destiny…

Sheep is a ruminant mammal and throughout Chile it is common to see criollo sheep breeding, breeds very typical of South America, which descend from sheep brought by Spaniards during the 16th century, and which with the passage of time have freely interbred. From its fiber called fleece, yarns of natural white and gray colors are obtained, through an artisanal and ancestral process very representative of traditional Chilean crafts: the sheep's hair is sheared, washed, chastened and finally spun with the help of a tool called a spindle, an elongated wooden object used to spin textile fibers. It is a trade reserved for women and has been passed on from grandmothers to daughters and from daughters to granddaughters. Women, mostly housewives, who often live in rural areas, and who tend to weave textiles that adapt to the rainy and cold climate of southern Chile.
