Bracenets are bracelets made of ghost nets: recovered fishing nets abandoned or discarded at the sea. They are handcrafted into unique bracelets, upcycling a real piece of net for every product.
A lost or abandoned fishing net is a widespread source of pollution in the oceans. They pollute, break down into dangerous microplastics after 600 to 800 years, and they kill millions of marine animals every year. The “Pacific Garbage Patch” alone, the big garbage vortex in the North Pacific, is 4.5 times the size of Germany - and ghost nets make up 46% of the plastic waste there.
''Every Bracenet more means a piece of ghost net less''
Bracenet was launched in 2016 in Germany. In collaboration with marine conservation organizations Healthy Seas and Ghost Fishing, discarded ghost nets are recovered from reefs and shipwrecks. They are then cleaned, treated, and hand-processed to make colorful bracelets. Each one is unique, and they have the color of the net they are made from! Additionally, part of the profits from the bracelets are donated to Healthy Seas.
